Hvar Island

If you're coming to Hvar with car, you will have to take ferry to Stari Grad. Most people arriving on Hvar just rush by Stari Grad, which is a pity as it is a beautiful city, and also the one of the oldest cities in Croatia!

Stari Grad (eng. "old town") is historical heart of the island of Hvar. Compared to more famous Hvar town, Stari Grad is a much more subdued, lazy place with lots of local flavour.

Most of the town's cafes, bars and restaurants are lined up along Stari Grad's wide harbour. Have a coffee there and enjoy the atmosphere, or get lost in the charming back allies bursting with small shops and chatter of locals.

Excavated over the first half of the 20th century, Grapčeva cave is one of the best preserved Neolithic caves in the region.

The towering stalactites and stalagmites that decorate the cave resemble an ancient organ, and along with the absolute silence and solitude of the cave offer a magnificent and unforgettable sight.

It is located walking distance from the deserted hamlet of Humac. The cave is only open to visitors who book a guided tour, so be sure to do that. It is best organised from town of Jelsa.
